| Cost : 35 MUNITION Description : The Flank Speed ability is used by the Cromwell and the Cromwell Command tank. It allows for the Cromwell variants to have a short burst of speed, allowing them to flank enemy tanks, chase down retreating enemy units, and quickly escape danger. As stated, one of the main features of the ability is to quickly evade hazardous situations. This is useful if the Cromwell is damaged, and is being chased by enemy tanks or AT. It allows the Cromwell to move, in most cases, faster than the chasing unit. It also allows you to keep the repairing sappers away from the from lines, but still be useful. Flank speed does work when your tank has a damaged engine. Because the the boost from Flank Speed isn't that significant it it recommended that you use it when you have a really good chance to make a dash for freedom; it often isn't worth using just for the speed. The other main use for it is flanking enemy tanks and AT guns to get at the rear armor and weak points. Cromwells have low penetration, so its very important to use flank speed to get behind units like Panzer IV's and Panthers, otherwise the Cromwell doesn't stand a chance. This, however, can be a risky move, and it's often not worth giving up a Cromwell in a flank, attack unless you are sure you can kill the opposing unit. One problem with flank speed is it increases the fuel consumption of the unit in question while in use, so if you're starved of fuel, it isn't worth using. | |
